Majek Fashek was a powerhouse Nigerian musician who flipped the African reggae scene on its head by blending Jamaican roots rhythms with West African sounds like Fuji and Jùjú. He called this fusion Kpangolo. Everyone knew him as "The Rainmaker" after his 1988 megahit "Send Down the Rain" allegedly brought downpours to drought-stricken areas during his performances. A brilliant guitarist and a staunch pan-African voice, he even landed a deal with Interscope Records in the early '90s. Though personal struggles derailed his later years before he passed away in 2020, his music proved that reggae could carry a completely authentic African soul.
