Jonas Gwangwa (1937–2021) was a South African jazz trombonist, composer, and anti-apartheid activist. A founding member of the 1950s group The Jazz Epistles, he spent 30 years in exile, where he directed the ANC's Amandla Cultural Ensemble and collaborated with Miriam Makeba and Harry Belafonte. He also scored the 1987 film Cry Freedom, earning Oscar and Grammy nominations, before returning home in 1991.
