Artist Biography

Rajabu Abdulkahali Ibrahim (born 15 March 1991), known professionally as Harmonize (and affectionately as Konde Boy), is a Tanzanian singer, songwriter and entrepreneur, and one of East Africa’s most influential contemporary artists. He is widely credited as the architect of Afro Bongo, a genre-defining fusion of Bongo Flava’s East African soul and the global momentum of Afrobeat. Since breaking through in 2015, he has built a career rooted firmly in Tanzania while reaching audiences across the continent and beyond.

Early life

Harmonize was born in the Mtwara Region in southern Tanzania and grew up in a modest household. After completing his secondary education in 2009, he moved to Dar es Salaam, taking on a series of odd jobs while pursuing music. He began recording in 2011, but national recognition would not arrive until several years later.

Breakthrough and the WCB Wasafi years

In 2015 Harmonize met Diamond Platnumz and became the first artist to sign to WCB Wasafi, the label Diamond had founded. His debut single, Aiyola, was an immediate commercial success and established the melodic signature that would define his sound. Early hits such as Show Me (featuring Rich Mavoko) and Kwa Ngwaru (featuring Diamond Platnumz) cemented his rise, and in 2017 MTV Base named him among its African “Ones to Watch.”

In February 2019 he released his debut EP, Afro Bongo, featuring Diamond Platnumz, Burna Boy, Mr Eazi and Yemi Alade. Its standout track, Kainama, surpassed 14 million YouTube views within a year and remains one of the defining pan-African records of its era.

Going independent: Konde Music Worldwide

Harmonize left WCB Wasafi at the end of 2019 and founded his own label, Konde Music Worldwide (also known as Konde Gang), giving him full creative control. The move ushered in his most prolific period and a run of studio albums that consolidated his standing as a headline African artist:

• Afro East (2020): his debut album and a bold statement of Afro Bongo as a distinct genre, featuring Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi, Morgan Heritage, Khaligraph Jones and others.

• High School (2021): a leaner, more self-driven project featuring Naira Marley and Sarkodie that broadened his pan-African reach.

• Made for Us (2022): critically acclaimed for its personal themes and refined musicality; Music In Africa called it his most personal work to date.

• Visit Bongo (2023): named by Notjustok among the best Tanzanian albums of the year.

Signature songs and global reach

Across a decade of hits, several songs have carried Harmonize well beyond East Africa. Kwangwaru crossed 100 million YouTube views, and Happy Birthday became an international talking point after Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o shared it publicly.

His 2023 Amapiano-leaning single Single Again, later remixed with Nigeria’s Ruger, charted across Southern and East Africa, while Furaha and Me Too (featuring Abigail Chams) kept him at the forefront of contemporary African music into 2024 and 2025. In 2024 he linked up with American rapper Bobby Shmurda and Kenya’s Bien on I Made It.

A genuine collaborator rather than simply a featured name, Harmonize has worked with a long list of artists across Africa and the diaspora, including Burna Boy, Diamond Platnumz, Yemi Alade, Sarkodie, Mr Eazi, Eddy Kenzo, Mafikizolo, Awilo Longomba, Focalistic, Morgan Heritage, Spice, Bobby Shmurda and Abigail Chams.

According to his management, Harmonize maintains one of the largest digital audiences of any East African musician, with a catalogue that has been streamed in the billions and a YouTube channel followed by millions of subscribers. It is sustained, cross-platform reach that has grown year on year.

Live performance

Harmonize is equally at home in an intimate club and on a festival main stage, with a live show built around powerful vocals, high-energy delivery and an instinct for crowd connection. His international dates have taken him across Kenya, Uganda, the United Kingdom and Australia, alongside a widely celebrated Trace Awards concert broadcast live from Zanzibar.

What’s next

Harmonize enters 2026 in a strong creative run, with his fifth studio album, “31”, among the most anticipated East African releases of the year. The build-up has produced a steady stream of singles, including YELOMI (with Ethiopia’s Rophnan), Boa Nova, Wewe, Kama Sio (with Kusah), Yazoee and Leo (with fellow Tanzanian star Mbosso), charting across Tanzania, Kenya and the wider region.

He has also deepened his footprint in Southern Africa through cross-border collaborations with Zambian artists, including a feature on Yo Maps’ 2026 album Vibes on Vibes and a link-up with Chile One MrZambia. Following the release of “31”, his management has announced a 2026 global tour beginning in Africa before moving through Europe, Australia, Canada and the United States, his most ambitious live campaign to date.
