Choc Stars du Zaïre

Founded in November 1983 by vocalist Ben Nyamabo, Choc Stars du Zaïre was a premier Congolese orchestra that defined the sophisticated, polished sound of 1980s rumba and soukous. The ensemble stood out in Kinshasa's fierce music scene for its corporate discipline, smooth multi-part vocal harmonies, and rich, mid-tempo arrangements rather than hyper-frenetic beats. Serving as a massive launchpad for legendary talent, the band featured an elite lineup of vocalists including General Defao, Debaba El Shaddai, and Carlyto Lassa, anchored by the masterful solo guitar of Roxy Tshimpaka.
