Banjo Mosele

Banjo Mosele is a legendary guitarist and composer from Kanye, Botswana, who famously helped shape the Southern African music scene as a founding member of Hugh Masekela’s iconic Kalahari Band. After touring the world and playing on hit albums like Techno-Bush during the 1980s, he relocated to the UK to study at Goldsmiths College, where he fronted the acclaimed Afro-jazz outfit Bushmen Don't Surf and became a highly sought-after session player alongside global icons like Peter Gabriel and Jonas Gwangwa. Later splitting his time between Norway’s vibrant jazz scene and his homeland, Mosele launched a stellar solo career dedicated to preserving Tswana culture through albums like Badisa and Nowa Days. Writing primarily in Setswana, his socially conscious music struck a powerful chord across Africa and Europe, culminating in a major sweep at the 2009 Botswana Music Awards where his hit "Ntsa E Jele Ntsanyana" won Song of the Year.
